When Spring Arrives in the Body

Girls enter spring while many of us mothers are entering autumn

Spring is almost here.

You can feel it before you see it.

The air softens.
The trees begin to swell with tiny buds.
Something that looked quiet and dormant just weeks ago starts to move again.

Nature doesn’t rush spring.

It prepares slowly, quietly, beneath the surface.

And the truth is, our bodies move in the same way.

Especially the female body.

The first period is not just a moment. It’s a season

When a girl has her first period, we often treat it like a single event.

A day.
A conversation.
A product we hand her in the bathroom.

But what is actually happening is much deeper than that.

Her body is entering a new season.

Her hormones begin to move in rhythms.
Her brain and ovaries start a conversation that will continue for decades.
Her emotional world becomes more layered, more sensitive, more alive.

Something ancient is waking up inside her.

Just like spring wakes the earth.

And many girls feel this shift long before they have the words to explain it.

Our bodies were never meant to be linear

Nature is not linear.

The moon changes.
The tides move in and out.
The seasons turn again and again.

The female body does the same.

Every menstrual cycle carries its own seasons:

Winter — when the body rests and turns inward.
Spring — when energy rises and curiosity returns.
Summer — when connection and expression bloom.
Autumn — when emotions deepen and the body prepares to release.

When girls understand this early, something important happens.

Their bodies stop feeling confusing.

They begin to make sense.

But something else is happening at the same time

As our daughters enter their spring…

Many of us mothers are entering another season.

Autumn.

The season when the body begins to shift again.

Hormones change.
Energy moves differently.
Emotions become more complex.
The body asks for a different kind of care.

And if we’re honest, this season can feel confusing too.

Sometimes exhausting.
Sometimes emotional.
Sometimes deeply reflective.

I know this personally.

While my daughter is moving toward her first cycles, I’m moving through my own hormonal changes, my own moments of questioning, my own process of learning to listen to my body again.

In a strange and beautiful way, we are standing on opposite sides of the same cycle.

She is beginning.

And I am transforming.

This is why the mother–daughter relationship matters so much right now

Girls don’t just need information about puberty.

They need space to feel what is happening inside them.

And mothers need space too.

Space to observe themselves.
Space to slow down.
Space to remember that we are also bodies moving through seasons.

When mothers and daughters sit together in that awareness, something powerful happens.

Just presence.

And that presence becomes the bridge between generations.

This spring we are gathering around the fire

As spring arrives, we are creating a simple gathering for mothers and daughters.

A circle around the fire.

A moment to pause together as the seasons change…. outside in nature and inside our bodies.

To honor the girls who are entering their spring.

And the women who are moving through their own seasons of transformation.

There will be warmth, stories, quiet moments, and the kind of connection that rarely happens in the middle of everyday life.

Just mothers and daughters, sitting together under the sky an in front of the fire.

If this speaks to you, I would love for you to join us.

🌿 Mother–Daughter Spring Bonfire Circle
A gathering to welcome the new season together. Because sometimes the most important thing we can do for our daughters…is simply sit beside them while the seasons change.

And for the girls who are approaching their own “first spring”

For some girls, this season also brings the beginning of a deeper transition, the approach of their first menstrual cycles.

For years, I’ve held My First Moon Camp, a small rite-of-passage experience where girls learn about their bodies, their cycles, and their inner wisdom in a joyful, respectful, and age-appropriate way.

It’s not just about puberty education.

It’s about helping girls understand that their bodies are part of something beautiful and cyclical, just like the earth and the moon.

Registration for My First Moon Summer Camp opens tomorrow.

Families who have been waiting for this experience will be able to register as soon as enrollment opens.

Because when girls understand their bodies early, something shifts.

They grow into womanhood with curiosity instead of confusion…
and with pride instead of shame.
